Confirmation 2011
Our preparation program for the sacrament of confirmation will start in September. Please register your child using the Family Religious Education brochure registration sheet. The Vatican and Women: Rules and Reactions
New rules issued by the Vatican seem to link attempts at ordaining women with pedophilia as among the “most serious crimes.” Women attempting to be priests, and those who try to ordain them, already faced automatic excommunication, but the new decree states the action is “a crime against sacraments.” While sexual abuse is a "crime against morality," the attempt to ordain a woman is a "crime against a sacrament," referring to Holy Orders. What was actually stated in the document? What is the Vatican position? What is your position? How do you feel? A dialogue session on this topic will take place on Tues., Sept. 14, the Feast of the Holy Cross, 7pm. Facilitated by Bob Bowers, all are welcome. Info: Office of Outreach and Reconciliation. 617-948-2422 or robertobowers@yahoo.com.
The Church: A Spiritual Home for Gay and Lesbian Catholics?
This summer a formal dialogue session took place here at the Paulist Center around the issues of Catholics who are gay, their families and their children, especially in light of local church leadership and pastoral responses to concerns regarding children in Catholic schools. A group has formed to continue dialogue and discussion on this and related topics. Participants are gay and straight and will be meeting in the fall for further conversation. Community members interested in joining the dialogue are invited to register. More information or to register: contact Bob Bowers at the Office of Outreach and Reconciliation. 617-948-2422 or robertobowers@yahoo.com.
Back To School Drive!
For the next few weeks, we are asking Paulist Center members to participate in our Back-To-School Drive by purchasing school supplies or gift cards for children and families in need. You may purchase paper, pads, binders, pens, pencils, markers, calculators, backpacks, etc., or a gift card to a store like Target, Walmart, CVS, or RiteAid so families could choose their own supplies. Low income children who visit the neurology clinic at Children’s Hospital Boston will be the recipients of your donations; these include kids with autism, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, mitochondrial disease, ADHD, etc. Community member Christine Monterio is a social worker for this program, and will distribute supplies to families. Supplies can be dropped off during the week at our front desk or on weekends in the baskets in the Mary Alcove or Food Pantry in the elevator lobby. You can also send to Susan Rutkowski, Paulist Center, 5 Park St., Boston, MA 02108.
Thinking about Becoming a Catholic?
Join Rick Walsh, CSP and Bob Rivers, CSP for an “inquiry class.” The purpose of this session is to answer any questions that you may have about the Church in general or about joining the Catholic Church in particular. Come with your questions. You make no commitments and no pressure will be applied to join the Church. Contact either Rick or Bob for upcoming dates and more information: Rick at 617-948-2424 or bmwcsp@yahoo.com or Bob at 617-948-2406.

Volunteers Needed for Supper Club! Set Up- Food Service- Clean Up

During the school year we are blessed with large groups from local colleges, high schools, churches and business. However, during the summer these groups tend to take vacations. So, we are calling on our Paulist Center Community to come help volunteer, any and/or every Wednesday night. Come by 5:30/45 to get an assignment. We start serving at 6 and are usually all cleaned up by 8. Come earlier if you can to help set up the tables. For all of you who already come, we Thank You! If you cannot make it on Wed night we are also in need of lemonade/ punch/tea drink mixes. During these hot Boston months our guests are very appreciative of cold drink varieties. You can drop them off in the designated box in the Mary alcove in the Chapel. Please contact: Emily Hankle at ekayhankle@gmail.comwith any questions.

Thinking of Setting a Marriage Date
Registered members of the Paulist Center Community (PCC) who would like to have a wedding ceremony at the PCC should contact a priest on staff at least six months prior to the desired date for the marriage. Community members getting married in a Catholic ceremony elsewhere with the Catholic Church’s approval should also contact a priest on staff here at least six months prior to the wedding date. Typically, marriage preparation occurs where you normally attend services. Please note that only established members of the PCC can be married at the Paulist Center.

Matching Gifts
In the past few years, due to some changes in the wording of the law, many companies have been able to include churches in their matching gift programs as long as they are qualified 501(c)3 organizations, which the Paulist Center is. If your company offers a matching gift program, please check to see if you can have your donations to the Center matched. If you have any questions, please call Patty Simpson at 617-948-2428. We appreciate all donations. Thanks!

Please stop by the reception area during the week or call Vusie at 617-742-4460 if you would like to arrange to purchase a mass card in memory of someone who has died, in honor of a special occasion,, or for the special intentions of yourself or a loved one.
